Campus Compliance Updates

August 14, 2025

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is committed to creating a safe campus, and that includes making sure we’re following laws and policies.

Campus Compliance Services launched in 2024 and works behind the scenes to help campus offices stay on track with federal and state requirements, as well as university policies. Led by Ashley Blamey, UT’s interim chief campus compliance officer and Title IX Coordinator, CCS went through a reorganization to make its work even more efficient and effective. Here’s what that means for you:

Clery Compliance Updates

One major change is that the Clery Compliance Coordinator role—previously housed in the UT Police Department—has moved to CCS. This shift helps better connect different parts of campus compliance work while still keeping a strong partnership with UTPD.

Kristin Parrott, who many may know from her work in UT Human Resources, is now in this role. She helps track and report important campus safety information, like crime and fire statistics, timely warnings (like Safety Notices), and the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.

Title VI and TCA § 49-50-1802

Michelle Buck, executive director of the Office of Investigation and Resolution (OIR), now also serves as UT’s Title VI coordinator—a role required by both state and federal law.

OIR investigates reports of harassment, discrimination, and other policy violations. Under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and Tennessee law (TCA § 49-50-1802), discrimination based on race, color, national origin, and antisemitism is prohibited.

More About CCS

CCS also supports UT’s efforts to meet legal and ethical requirements in other areas like Title IX and NAGPRA.

All of UT’s compliance work is guided by the seven elements of an effective compliance program. Integrity and compliance with applicable laws and regulations are essential to both our academic mission and university operations.
